Moving content: Extracting Files from eLearning

Content files such as HTML files, Word files, PDF files etc can be copied and compressed into a single file called a "zip archive" for download to a local computer. The process is called "zipping".

Summary of Steps

  1. In eLearning choose the "Build" tab. You must be a course designer to see this tab. TAs do not see this tab.
  2. From the "build" tab choose from the menu at the left "file manager".
  3. The file manager contains all the course content files you have uploaded to eLearning. Those files can be "zipped" into an archive file.
  4. To select all the files in your course, choose the check box next to the word "title" at the top of the file list.
  5. Then scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen and choose the "zip" button.
  6. Choosing zip makes a file named *.zip which is the archive file which you can save to the eLearning file manager. Choose OK to create the file.
  7. Download the .zip file from eLearning.
  8. Then save the zip file to your local computer.
  9. The zip file could be uploaded to another system and then "unzipped" to extract each file or can be "unzipped" to extract the files to the local computer drive.
