Master Courses

Master courses can be used to copy content into all new sessions. They are basically content and settings template courses that can be reused over and over again in sections. This may make sense for adjuncts who need some standard content readily available. During course creation, use the "Sharing" tab under the course settings to allow sharing of the course.

  • It is imperative to make sure all settings (for every assignment, etc) are set in such a way that they will apply to every course they are copied into. Otherwise, you end up with a bunch of sessions with all different settings (b/c you have to then set them up individually).
  • One other thing to watch out for is the icon links. If you enter an icon as a display setting (for a folder, page, etc), then we’ve found that you have to enter it into both the associated and personal sections for it to not break during transfer.
  • When you make updates to the master, all other copies made after that have the corrections.

Macros can help pre-format pages, and can be shared with students. Macros can be reached from the formatting bar above text entry boxes.
