FAQ

What does the file manager do?

The course files manager is where all files related to the course are stored, some are seen in the course, and others are related to items seen in the course. When an instructor adds a file to their course via the Lessons tab, a link to the file is placed in the Lessons tab, and the actual file is placed in the Course Files area, in a folder with a name corresponding to the object id. Similarly, if someone uploads a picture for a page, or submits an item to a drop box, or any other kind of file entry that could exist, those files will be placed in the File Manager area.

The Lessons tab, though, is not populated by putting items in the Files area. In order for things to appear under Lessons, you will need to add a content item under "Add Content" under the Lessons tab.

It is recommended you don't go into the Course Files area, as there's not much that you can/should do in there. Unless you have a specific need, and you're aware that simply putting something in the files manager does not mean it will appear in the Lessons tab.
